Trimline Interiors LogoDynamics Consultants’ have been supporting Trimline, the Southampton based marine interior specialist, since the beginning of 2010. Dynamics Consultants has contributed to Trimline’s on-going success by providing a business software solution combining Microsoft Dynamics NAV and Microsoft SharePoint.

Trimline has recently won a share of a £350m MoD contract to cover the long-term maintenance of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) Flotilla of naval support ships. Made up of fuel tankers, stores ships, a medical facility and landing ships, the RFA provides essential support such as food, fuel, munitions and other vital supplies to the Royal Navy at sea.

Four years ago Trimline was awarded a contract worth tens of millions of pounds to refurbish RFA ships for up to five years. The company hired 20 new staff, a 40 per cent growth in its workforce, on the strength of the deal. What can be achieved with Add-ins for Microsoft Dynamics NAV?

Historically in the Dynamics NAV Classic client we were not able to host external controls on NAV forms. This meant we were restricted to NAV Form controls or opening an external program in a separate window. It was not easy to communicate back and forward between NAV and the external program, for example calling a NAV lookup form to select a value for a control on the external program. 

With the introduction of the Role Tailored Client we are finally able to host external controls on Dynamics NAV pages. In versions prior to 2009 R2, we could only communicate with the Add-in in a very simple manner, to give data to the add-in for one single variable and retuning data to NAV was done via a single event with 2 parameters. The parameters used could be BigText which did mean that you could populate this with an XML file which could hold multiple records of data.

Update - commerceserver.net

It has been announced that the new name for Ascentium’s Commerce Server division is commerceserver.net. As previously mentioned, in line with this announcement is the release of Commerce Server 10 – the preview version of it anyway.


 Ascentium Rebranding

Ascentium, the company who have taken over Commerce Server from Microsoft have announced a rebranding to SMITH to cover the digital marketing, implementation and service side of the business  with an announcement imminent for a new company name to cover the product (Commerce Server) side of the business.  The announcement is expected to coincide with the release of Commerce Server 10 which will carry the new branding.
