Courier system add-on

Development project: Parcelforce courier system add on for Microsoft Dynamics NAV / Navision.

Customer: Royal Yachting Association (RYA).

Project details: We developed the RYA's NAV system to calculate the cost of delivery and produce all the required documents for Parcelforce.

At the time of writing, Parcelforce differ from other couriers in that they do not have integration software, so the NAV system has to produce directly the parcel numbers and all related labels and documents.

When the RYA completes a sales order, their NAV system calculates the cost of delivery to charge back to their customer based on the weight of the order.

Once the order is shipped their dispatch department has a new screen that allows them to add additional information, such as number of packages, whether proof of delivery is required and any special delivery instructions. They can then create the address labels directly from NAV, along with any required international documentation, such as customs declarations.

The system also allows for deliveries not created by sales orders, such as office returns. At the end of the business day a manifest file is uploaded to Parcelforce who then collect the parcels.

Benefits to the customer: This add-on helps eliminate errors caused by retyping address information into a separate system, and makes the whole process more efficient. The cost savings on being able to recharge out the delivery costs accurately are very significant.
