Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Buying Guide

How do you buy Business Central ERP?

Buying an ERP solution for SMB, such as Microsoft Dynamics® 365 Business Central is not as simple as putting in your card details and going. The reality is that there is involved, as you might imagine with a piece of software that runs your entire business!

However, most people have not got any experience of this; at most one or two implementations. As experts in implementing Business Central, we are here to help you through the process of understanding your needs, pricing and planning your project.

Factors in Buying Business Central ERP

There are a number of factors to consider for buying an ERP system.

Business Central and other Licenses

Buying software requires buying licenses to use the software. There are different levels depending on your functional requirements and based on the user levels. If there are requirements for further add-on solutions, there will likely be further licensing requirements for that extra functionality.

It is worth noting that pricing can vary depending on how you pay, for example monthly, annually in advance (the most common) and three yearly in advance.

As you can see, licensing can get quite complicated! Don’t worry, however, as we have a number of experts on our team who will be able to advise on the exact licenses you need, as well as at what point in the implementation you actually need to buy them.

If you do want to get into it, however, you can of course download the licensing guide!

Business Central Implementation/Services

ERP solutions such as Business Central require a lot more setup than, for example, a basic finance package. It requires setup and configuration, either based on typical industry practices or your individual requirements. From personalised process flows, chart of accounts and financial setup to manufacturing and warehousing systems.

One way to simplify this is to use pre-packaged implementations, which covers the standard setups for systems. This is normally only a starting point, and suits companies with more standardised requirements.

For larger or more complex businesses, a bespoke implementation is required. This will typically involved a functional requirements investigation, followed by a project to do any setup, customisation and development.

Business Central Partner

Where do you buy Business Central licenses from and get the implementation services? Microsoft do not do this directly to end users – they rely on their approved partner network.

Microsoft partners offer the technical expertise, services, and solutions you need to transform your business, be profitable, and grow in new ways. We are also able to help with understanding the complex licensing requirements, as well as bringing together industry solutions from ISVs.

As your business changes, you will likely want to implement more functionality and make changes to the system, and a partner’s ongoing relationship with you will help to make strategic decisions around capability of the product and your business needs.

Business Central Support

With a software system such as Business Central running your entire business, it is important to have the confidence that it will continue to run seamlessly. Having support and maintenance in place means that if something does go wrong, you will know that you have a friendly and knowledgeable team on hand to help solve the problem.

Whether it is a technical issue, someone has made a mistake on the system, or HMRC have made a change to VAT submissions, our support team are here to help find you a resolution. As such, ongoing support after your go-live is an important aspect of running an ERP solution such as Business Central.
