Some useful features we have been working on in Dynamics NAV
29 October 2009
We have been working on a number of new features
in NAV for our customers. Below are some of those
that we feel could be of benefit to other NAV users
too. Please
contact us for more information.
Creating Excel reports with additional formatting
It's already possible to create Excel reports with some formatting, such as bold and underline. With this feature, you can now add, amongst other things, background colours, cell borders and merge cells.
Copy Item feature
This feature allows you to easily create similar items (i.e. entries for similar products) in NAV, saving time and effort. You can copy related tables of information as well, such as extended texts and prices.
SQL Batch Job to update the data on a test database
Allows you to update the data in your test SQL database with data from your live SQL database without having to do a full restore. This is especially useful if you have stored procedures or other test functionality on your test database but require up to date data.
Changing 'deadlock' priorities (SQL databases only)
A 'deadlock' situation is when two or more users try to make a change simultaneously. This feature allows you to assign a priority score to users so the NAV system knows which user has the highest priority in a deadlock situation.
Job Queue
Enables you to run automated reports on your application server (which you have one free licence for) and to receive email confirmation that the report has run. This is especially useful if you have time-consuming reports to run as you can run them on your server overnight without tying up a user licence. By way of example, some of our customers have used this feature to produce back order reports and inventory valuation reports.
